pro tips for yall dealing with nyu "financial aid" office rn:

• deadlines are lowkey fake. if u don't pay by the 12th, nothing will happen to u i swear. as long as u can pay your outstanding balance (or get it under $1,000) the day before move-in, u should be good

(thread)
•try to work out a negotiation with them. i was once able to pay just HALF of one semester upfront so that i was allowed to register for classes for the next semester.
ok so im sure that no one knows that this exists but there's something called the NYU Torch Grant! if you pay nyu literally nothing for an entire semester, they will finally realize that ur struggling, and will just give u a one-time grant that literally clears HALF of ur bill!!!
^^^idk if this is something that u can inquire about (as i just got it randomly) but it's worth a shot to ask!
•DETAILS ARE EVERYTHING! i have a 3 page long essay detailing ALL the specifics of my family's financial situation (single-parent household, multiple children in college, etc). include positive comments/assessments professors have made about u to show that ur worth keeping
•dont look down on GoFundMe. i get the apprehension but TRUST ME when i say that it might be your best option. i am living proof that it legitimately works and can change the tides in your favor
•there's a financial aid appeal on albert every semester, dont forget to fill it out! again, be as specific as possible. ive managed to get a couple thousand here and there, every little bit helps!
•CALL THE BURSAR DIRECTLY!!! i can confidently say that from my experience, about 75% of the time they just transferred me to the bursar's office anyways, so cut the middle and save some time! here's their number
•if at all possible, reach out to family friends and your extended family concerning your situation. especially if you've all had a good relationship for years/decades, they might just want to help you out!
•if you're religious/have a place where u regularly worship, TELL THEM TOO!!! especially if you've been going to that place of worship for years, the members might just put something together for you.
•the above could also work in a workspace! your parents just telling a few of their coworkers could make a big difference!
•dm accounts on IG and twitter that have huge followings and ask them if they could promote any GoFundMe that you end up making. any signal boost is a good one!
•CALL FINANCIAL AID OFTEN!!! it gets SUPER annoying but i PROMISE that if you bug them enough they'll just give u some shit just so u can leave them alone
if i think of any more tips ill let yall know. there are so many ins and outs to the financial aid office and things that they flat out dont tell most students. i hope this helped in any way. lemme know if u have any specific questions!!!
also it's worth mentioning that im not just making this all up as stuff that "could" work. ive literally done every single one of these, and have experienced varying degrees of success with each one. THEY WORK!
