Players at the age of 30 and over that Arsenal have signed in the past 15 years. A fun thread.
David Luiz. He has put in some really good, important performances this season but has conceded as many penalties by himself as Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle combined. Likeable but unreliable.
Stephan Lichtsteiner. Signed on a free but I still think we got ripped off. A good professional with a very respectable career, although way past it before he arrived.
Petr Cech. Many people said he’d win us 10 points a season when he came, he most certainly didn’t. He was solid at times but nowhere near the level he showed at Chelsea.
Kim Kallstom. Showed up with a broken back, smashed in a penalty against Wigan, left. Became a bit of a cult figure but hardly a success.
Yossi Benayoun. In desperate times he was a solid acquisition, especially useful as Arshavin had decided to give up running in that season.
Thierry Henry. That was worth it.
Sebastien Squillaci. Utter shite in his first season, 7 appearances in the next 2 years as we failed to offload him.
Jens Lehmann. Came back when all of our keepers got injured. Made 1 appearance.
Sol Campbell. Like Jens, came back as we were plagued with injuries. Given the collective of shite we had in that position he looked okay, but had been on the decline for several years beforehand.
Mikael Silvestre. Genuinely one of the most calamitous players I’ve seen in an Arsenal shirt in my reasonably short life.
Mart Poom. In a summer when Arsene promised “3 top quality signings”, we got in Alex Hleb, an 18 year old Alex Song and Mart Poom on a free. Still outrageous and hilarious to this day.
