I think we have to be vigilant about the ideas & philosophies of African spirituality that we embrace as ‘our roots.’

Because the celebration of orishas, marine spirits, and deities is not black culture— it is simply witchcraft & demonic. & should not be glorified.
In Ephesians paul says “we are not wrestling against flesh & blood but against principalities & powers, the rulers of the darkness of this world, & spiritual wickedness in high places.”

& yes, sometimes that darkness comes packaged as ‘great visuals & cinematography’.
We truly have to stop blindly (or blatantly) glorifying witchcraft and calling it black culture & aesthetics.
As a Nigerian (more specifically Yoruba) I have first hand account of the darkness of orishas (i.e oshun) & I’ll tell you, it is NOTHING to be played with or celebrated.
Other Africans will tell you they are fighting spiritual warfare against these powers of darkness, till this very day.

So please understand that trying to normalize African spirituality, & ancestral worship is not synonymous with being pro black. But it is in fact anti God.
Now I understand that this is not a popular opinion and will not sit well with many of you (the Gospel often never is). But I will always preach Christ crucified and PUBLICLY denounce anything that goes against it, even if it is your favorite artist.
So please let’s be VERY vigilant in these matters. Because there are a million and one ways to love, uplift, and embrace African culture WITHOUT glorifying the gods and evil traditions of it.
Also, let’s not deceive ourselves. Because we can’t keep praying to God to break the yoke of generational curses and claim “Abraham blessings are mine” while simultaneously celebrating demonic covenants & marine spirits.
And I know this sounds heavy, but thats because there is nothing and I mean nothing casual about the kingdom of darkness and it should not be toyed with or taken lightly.
So at some point we have to draw a line and pick a side.

B/c the blatant glorification of ancestral spirits in the name of black culture completely contradicts everything that is Christ. Please don’t let the world convince you otherwise.
