Some stuff I figured out recently about #parenting self care:
For a while now I’d been trying to figure out why I feel so trapped in my own home when it finally dawned on me - I’ve never carved out space for myself in my new house @anndouglas /1

Since becoming a parent I’d always worked and saw my limited time with the boys as sacred. Now that I’m home with the boys I still treated it that way and dedicated all my time to them.
When I finally got a break I collapsed and was unproductive. /2

I was spending too much time on Twitter and dumb phone games since I was depressed and unmotivated. Sure I like exercise but I have to find something for the kids to or do or do it in the evening. Plus I feel yucky and don’t want to move. #parentburnout /3
My evenings “off” saw me going grocery shopping or other necessities because I don’t have hobbies outside my home (a complaint I hear from a lot of moms). I can’t grab drinks with friends because my bubble is kid focussed and we’re sticking with Phase 2. /4
When I was a single mom my bedroom was my sanctuary. I much prefer living with my new partner but he has the office now and I don’t have a space to hide (except the bathroom). All this is my own doing but I also think we don’t encourage moms to create space. #momcavenotmancave /4
My therapist of 20 years retired last year so I need to find a new one but that requires motivation. I am taking two steps including trying to fit in basic yoga to feet better and a kitchen reno as I might as well love the room I’m in most. #babysteps /5
So far the biggest outcome for me was just identifying what was wrong. I still don’t know how to fix it permanently but feel better knowing I’m not crazy. #selfcare /6
I’d love to get tips from others who have gone through the same process. This started before quarantine but it make everything worse and I’m sure others feel the same. Thanks for listening and stay safe! #parentinginapandemic
