We're still awaiting fine print of the @LASchools- @UTLAnow deal on #distancelearning.
But #LAUSD ALSO released an outline of their #BacktoSchool plan this morning — which includes some details about how much live instruction students can expect. THREAD: https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/7012660-LAUSD-Back-to-School-Plan.html

(1) @LASchools *appears* to have agreed to @UTLAnow's "Smart Start" idea.
Instead of jumping right into instruction on Aug. 18, students will get two (?? half-)days of orientation before regular instruction starts in full on Thursday, Aug. 20.
During these days, adults get PD.

(2) #LAUSD's sample schedule for TK-Kindergarten calls for *90 minutes* of live ("synchronous") instruction and, overall, a 180-minute student day.
(This is a little different than @UTLAnow's proposal from July 30, but not THAT different to my eyes https://mcusercontent.com/e51f39a03d845e2cafae71eff/files/fb116e71-4d29-4a65-bbe2-5bac3a2b2359/UTLA_Proposal_TK_12_School_Day_Schedules_for_2020_2021_Remote_Learning_MOU_7_30_20_.pdf )

(3) Here's the plan for #SpecialEducation elementary students. Not sure where related service providers (i.e. Speech, PT, OT…) are contemplated here — maybe under "support staff"?
(4) Here's @LASchools' plan for reaching elementary English Learners — who the data show were really left behind last Spring #ellchat
(5) This slide is a lot to take in, but a few important takeaways:
- #LAUSD is setting "guideposts" for what teachers/students should be covering in the first month of class
- @LASchools apparently WILL mandate interim assessments, like DIBELS, to track students' progress

(6) #LAUSD also previews what will happen whenever (…if ever?) public health conditions allow a return to campus.
The #hybridlearning schedule calls for an AM-PM schedule in elementary … but an alternating day schedule in middle- and high schools. (Why is it titled "Sample"?)

(7) WHEN CAMPUSES REOPEN…
"K-8 students will have supervised care when not receiving direct, on-campus instruction." According to the slide, @LASchools staff will do the supervising at libraries, community colleges, parks & rec centers.

More details likely to come during @AustinLASchools' speech at 11a and a @UTLAnow Facebook Live conference at 1p.
…so how are people feeling about this?
