I don't know if it this is an issue in other crafting hobbies or just the fibercraft world, (I mean, I never saw this shit when I was doing chainmail) but there's a real disconnect with beginner level hobbiests being Very Unhappy that they are not producing masterworks
And then either turning around and blaming the people they bought their tools/supplies/patterns from OR turning to their local or online community and demanding master level instruction for free with instant answers and results.
And sure as hell none of them wants to hear that the solution is to take a year or three (or more) and learn the craft from the ground up AND that they are going to make a bunch of shitty apprentice level items first because THAT IS HOW YOU LEARN.
And! They should be proud as hell of those shitty apprentice pieces because they are badges of honor! Do you have any idea how many people I ran up to with my first ratty crochet swatch going Look! I made a thing!! I WAS 36 Y'ALL, I FEARED NO CRINGE AND NEITHER SHOULD YOU.
Not only does no one expect you to be a knitting prodigy out of the gate, but creating a "perfect" piece with someone holding your hand and no understanding of what you are doing or why it works means you haven't actually learned anything.
