one of the "weird" things about being indian american is this weird expectation that all indians know and celebrate the same occasions like...im south indian so i never did garba or raksha bandhan or rly knew what they were. meanwhile i doubt north indians know much about pongal
it& #39;s just weird things about india being so massively diverse in just about every way and then when we get to the US i guess there are fewer indians so i MAJORITY RULES or smth and then i get weird looks from all the north indians i went to hs with bc i didn& #39;t know what garba was
Or like how everyone assumes indian weddings are fun and have dancing and like

i& #39;m south indian tamil and our weddings are the most boring shit in the world if you& #39;re not part of the wedding party
me: yeah my brother& #39;s wedding in india

everyone: oh did he ride on a horse was there dancing was it weeks long of partying

me: lol im south indian
the kinds of south indian tamil weddings i& #39;ve been to are basically you& #39;ve got the ceremony which is VERY traditional and everyone sits in a wedding hall and watches it happen and throw rice/flowers when you tie the thali (think wedding ring) and then the banquet after. no party
