Anyone else wake up from that dream where they all complained about your qual sample size again? Yes? Ok, a thread. 1/x
First, let& #39;s not forget that sampling -- any sampling -- is fraught with risk. You are not doing a census. 2/x
Quant sampling has a very specific set of assumptions built into it. And guess what? They& #39;re entirely different assumptions for qual and quant research. Here& #39;s my very old slideshare about it 3/x https://www.slideshare.net/sladner/sampling-methods-in-qualitative-and-quantitative-research-presentation">https://www.slideshare.net/sladner/s...
You aren& #39;t just sampling people in qual research, but all the deep context of things and events and relationships that surround those people. You don& #39;t have a small sample at all; it& #39;s just not full of people. 4/x (I summarize all this in my book btw) https://www.amazon.com/Practical-Ethnography-Guide-Private-Sector/dp/1611323908/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=practical+ethnography&qid=1596468195&sr=8-1">https://www.amazon.com/Practical...
It& #39;s because qual and quant are very different ways of knowing, as I note in my most recent book. So if someone complains about the sample size, you are ready. But apparently, you& #39;re still gonna have nightmares about it. 5/x https://www.mixedmethodsguide.com/ ">https://www.mixedmethodsguide.com/">...
