GEDmatch& #39;s recent breach changed consumer& #39;s preferences to opt-out to opt-in for law enforcement searches. This is a big deal, and just one of the reasons why a warrant standard is critical for LE to access genetic information—why just rely on an opt-in? https://preview.tinyurl.com/y4gw53c8 ">https://preview.tinyurl.com/y4gw53c8&...
@nytimes, avoiding LE interactions is a valid reason to opt-out—"For some users... keeping their profiles private is philosophical. Even if helping law enforcement could mean helping catch a killer, they do not want their genetic info used to incriminate their relatives."
I& #39;m not sure how a consumer& #39;s desire to protect relatives from invasive LE searches is "philosophical" especially as the DOJ& #39;s Interim Policy on utilizing these databases specifically lays out the protocol for using sites like #GEDmatch to find relatives.
