Let’s talk about vocal/singing training for a sec because so much of it (at least from my experience) tries to pigeon hole singing voices into certain types & sounds that it ends up doing more damage overall, especially for young developing voices
It’s taken me years to come back to a place of really understanding how my voice works and more importantly, how it FEELS. What works as one vocal training technique for one person doesn’t work for another and that’s the magic of singing.
Of course go-to exercises in establish a strong foundation but can we PLEASE acknowledge that the singing voice is an instrument? no two voices are the same. It’s like comparing an keyboard to a grand piano. Concept is the same, the sound isn’t. Voices are just like this
After years of classical training, how is it that in the last year I’ve only figured out on my own how to actually enjoy how my voice sounds?

Because I took their rules & decided, no. That’s not how my voice works or naturally wants to do.
Let me add that I don’t knock the training - it’s deepened my understanding of vocal health - But I’d argue that modern day singing (esp. for musical theatre & women’s voices) is about the individuality rather than that ✨tonal quality✨
This comes after listening back to a singing reel recording from earlier this year where I can hear I’m trying to sing in a way that just isn’t allowing my voice to actually be how it wants to & as a result, it just doesn’t sound good to me at all.
