As a parent who has a child in BVSD in Boulder I can tell you that I’m scared and do not have the funds to afford a private education and I can’t afford a pod either.
But I’m not going to send my kid to school to risk death and I’m not going to shame any parent who comes to the obvious conclusion that a pod is the best hope for kids in these times.
I am doing my best to set up a pod with others that will drive the costs down by sharing the expenses, and I’m looking at sharing days with other parents at no cost. These are viable options that can be explored instead of calling out parents who can afford the costs.
The concern that people will be left behind in education without wealth is not new, we live with this every day. Pointing it out and offering solutions is a good thing. Blaming parents is low and brings to question the perspective and editorial voice of the this news outlet.
No parent should feel guilty for taking matters into their own hands especially under this administration during these times.
Parents, don’t feel guilty, feel good that you seek to find the best for your kids that you can. Here is a good place to start if you are in #Boulder and need support. There is a Facebook group called “Boulder Valley School District Learning Pods” with ~2500 members to date.
The group is a good place to find a way no matter your income level. This is an empathetic time and requires asking for help & there is a significant community that can help, just ask. Cc @BVSDcolorado
