2/ …women and people of color in their disciplines, and as teachers of philosophy struggle to design courses that speak to the richness of the philosophical past and their students’ diverse interests, there is a palpable need for change.
3/ The series is interested in publishing two kinds of texts. PRIMARY TEXTS: this includes primary texts organized around a prominent author or topic, along with philosophically astute and historically rich introductions.
4/ PHILOSOPHICAL COMMENTARIES: The second kind of book are philosophical/intellectual commentaries on important “non-canonical” primary materials and figures.
5/ TAKE THESE TWO KINDS OF TEXTS AS YOUR STARTING POINT, BUT LET US TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE UP TO AND HOW IT MIGHT FIT WITH THE SERIES.
6/ I am specifically looking for book proposals IN the following areas: AFRICANA INTELLECTUAL HISTORY, HISTORY OF AFRICANA PHILOSOPHY, AFRICAN AMERICAN PHILOSOPHY.
7/ I welcome proposals FROM those historically inclined working in the areas of philosophy, Africana Studies, intellectual history, political theory, social theory, and literary studies.
8/ I am also looking for proposals interested in republishing the primary texts of figures in Africana Philosophy and Intellectual History.
9/ Some figures I am especially interested in getting in the series include primary materials of Ottobah Cugoano, Maria Stewart, Alexander Crummell, Fannie Barrier Williams, T. Thomas Fortune, Mary Church Terrell, C. L. R. James.
10/ Some projects already in development: David Walker, Hosea Easton, Martin Delany, Mary Ann Shadd Cary, Hubert Harrison. I WELCOME OTHERS!!
11/ Themes I’m especially interested in seeing proposals on include: early Black emigrationism, Black internationalism, Black Marxism, and Black Natural Rights tradition. I WELCOME OTHERS!!
