I’m not really “in” any Twitter circles, more orbiting the fringes of a few of them, and that makes for some really bizarre days sometimes.
For instance, academia Twitter is currently (rightfully!) blowing up because someone is eulogizing their own catfish persona.

Apparently that person has a History, but mostly the last act was incredibly racist, violent, and will do long-lasting damage.

Pretending to be Other online is not always innocent roleplaying. When you use it to build a platform (HI SWIFT IN SEC WHAT’S GOOD), sollicitate donations, or stand up for The Cause, it easily becomes malignant.
And when you’re exposes, it undermines trust for everyone.

Add in the /specific/ dynamics of “Pretendians” (look it up) and the extraordinary violence of calling for sympathy over your killed-off OC when there’s a ton of real harm happening in reservations and beyond...
It’s awful. It’s racist. It’s going to do damage long-term.
