This is a tough one.

I'm involved w/ a non-profit, independent school focused on early childhood (daycare).

I have the luxury of a job that allows me to WFH, if needed. Many families in America don't.

Keeping schools closed will mean many won't be able to return to work. https://twitter.com/SamRo/status/1290253659075305474
Put another way...

I'm ok w/ schools not being open. I understand the health & safety reasons...not just for students, but educators as well.

But I know some families in our school community don't have that option. They work in jobs (some deemed essential) that don't allow WFH.
If you keep schools closed...or only have them as virtual classrooms for Pre-K through Middle School...you'll need to pass another more substantive round of unemployment benefits...to help those who won't be able to go back to work because of childcare issues.
I'm a taxpayer...and if there were ever a time to deficit spend, it would be during a global health emergency. I just want to make sure we all understand that.

I'm fine with reopening schools, with the best possible health and safety protocols.
I'm also fine with not reopening schools...and backstopping the millions of Americans that won't be able to work because they can't leave their kids at home unsupervised.

Taxpayers will need to foot that bill.
Keep schools closed...fine.
Reopen schools...fine.

As long as we are all aware that there's a cost (not just economic) either way.

And we all share in the burden...
