This is a tricky one, to say the least. We know that at least 98% of the time, if a woman says she's been raped, she's been raped. We also know that the majority of uncaught rapists are repeat offenders. But, the #ToryRapist has a right to due process and a fair trial. https://twitter.com/IndyPolitics/status/1290229775848505349
The problem is, of course, that rapists almost never get a fair trial in the UK. Not because the trials are unfair, but because they don't get a trial at all. With over 55,000 reported rapes last year, the @cpsuk only saw fit to charge in 1.4% of these cases. #RapeJusticeNow
Rape has been effectively decriminalised in the last 3 years, with record low numbers of rapists convicted being set each year. (Last year: 1,439.) But if the charging rate stays this low, in a few years it will be around 525 convictions. Total. For a year.
Because of the serial nature of sex offenders, think of it as something like at least 26,000 rapists a year that will go on raping because of the decision to not charge them.

We need to do better.
Yes. WE.

As a society we cannot put up with this. We expect our most horrible crimes to be prosecuted, that the default should be to prosecute rapists. We must hold the @cpsuk to account.

And they must prosecute rapists. The #ToryRapist, obviously, but also the other 54,999.
