I go with 'What seems the right/most sensible thing to do' rather than a firm adherence to 'centre-left', but I have the confidence I can 'show my working' if I did get into a debate, that I listen to all sides, and allow my views to evolve. I'm genuinely curious why they don't.

Of course what this doesn't show, and would be far more fascinating, is the breakdown by field and demographics. 'Academic' is broad spectrum, and covers a rather massive range of people, that any statistics here is fairly useless.
