why is it celebrated in islam?
In islam we have prophets and there is a prophet named Ibrahim (also known in christian and jewish traditions as prophet Abraham). The prophet was instructed by god to re build the Kaaba
and underwent many trials and tribulations+
In islam we have prophets and there is a prophet named Ibrahim (also known in christian and jewish traditions as prophet Abraham). The prophet was instructed by god to re build the Kaaba

+ while building it. (The Kaaba is where millions upon millions of muslims make pilgrimage to every year and it is in Mecca)
it is mandatory to do the hajj (pilgrimage) at least once in a lifetime of the person has the ability to ( its one of the five pillars in islam)and the only time Hajj can be is the day before Eid al Adha which is called Arafat. In Arafat we usually fast as that day is very+
+ important Allah forgives many sins on that day and accepts many prayers. The day after Arafat is Eid al Adha.
Now let’s go back to the prophet Ibrahim. Ibrahim was instructed by god in his to sacrifice his son,all members of Ibrahim’s family demonstrated complete trust in God, therefore Ibrahim revealed the dream to Ishmael. He readily agreed that his father must carry out the command.
Together they went to the place of sacrifice and offered Ishmael’s life to God. Ibrahim prepared to sacrifice his beloved son. At this point Satan tempted Ibrahim trying to make him disobey God, but Ibrahim resisted and drove the Satan away.
Ibrahim looked down at his son for what he believed was the last time but as the blade came close to Ishmael’s neck God stayed his hand and revealed that there was no need for Ibrahim to continue. His sacrifice had already been fulfilled.
God replaced Ishmael with a sheep and it is for this reason that Muslims sacrifice an animal on the celebration of Eid al Adha; however, Eid is more than a celebration, it is a reminder. We are reminded of our own submission to the will of God.
Those Muslims who are not making the pilgrimage and who can afford it sacrifice an animal in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s test.
Now let’s talk about how animals are sacrificed in islam and how the meat is distributed since many islamaphobes wanna spread lies
So in Islam sacrificial sheep or even any animal has to be killed in a certain way
first the animal must not be haram or forbidden (i don’t feel like explaining this but i’ll provide a link https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haraam#Food_and_intoxicants)
Second the slaughter has to be done by a mentally competent adult muslim
Third no animal should witness the slaughter of another animal
Fourth the animal is laid down on its side gently as to not injure it
Fifth a sharp knife cuts the throughly in one swipe this cut must cut the major artieries but not decapitate the animal it has to be left to bleed out completely this is while saying Allahu Akbar
there are studies showing that the animal does not tell pain and it is shown here http://www.themodernreligion.com/misc/an/an_slaughter.htm
after the all the blood is left the animal i is shaved cleaned and cut then is distributed to neighbors family and then donated to the poor
okay now let’s move on to the actual eid and what happens
So in eid there is a prayer that is done called the eid prayer people usually gather in large groups to pray together also saying the takbir many distribute money or sweets to each other and after the prayer people greet each other with the eid sayings
In eid you have to wear your best clothes and go to visit families and feast the older members of the families give money to all the kids and that is called eidiya
people just go feast with music and lights everyone is saying hi to each other having fun collecting money and honestly just having a blast
i think this is it ? if you have any questions reply and i’ll try to answer them or if you have anything to add i’m not sure this isn’t everything this is just what i could do and yeah
