So when i was coming home from school today i listened to D-2 from start to end (as I do quite often) and I started wondering why the tracks were ordered in that way... and I think that while the entire mixtape shows some kind of reflection, the focus shifts over the course of
the songs. Just like how Yoongi said that this mixtape is a documentation of how his life is as a 28 year old, i think the track listing brings listeners through that examination of his life quite effectively.
I would separate the album into external and internal reflecting. +
I would separate the album into external and internal reflecting. +
The intro, Moonlight, does a fair bit of both, as he reflects on how he has changed in relation to the things in his life that have changed. How some things are different, but some are still the same. He takes a rather general, broad approach to the reflections in this song..
...since itâs the intro. Next we have daechwita and wdyt, both of which speak about the growth in his life from an external viewpoint, like his achievements and stuff. Of course there are points of introspection (e.g. the bridge of daechwita) but it is mostly external.
Then we have strange, which examines the society. I donât think thereâs as much internal reflecting here, but as you can see itâs still focusing on the world around him, and how he perceives it.
In 28, the topics become a little more internally focused, though in this case...

...yoongi reflects on his growth in relation to time, and his age. The lyrics are about him having to become an adult, leaving his youth etc. which is still related to external changes and the society around him. Making the song still somewhat externally focused.
At this point the lyrical themes start to move away from âothersâ and focus more on Yoongi himself in relation to the passage of time. Here, i feel that the album crosses from external to internal reflection
Because burn it is chiefly about himself. He undergoes some more personal reflection here, thinking about who he was in the past etc. This song is much more internally-focused...
Then, People talks about his present (and also future) self, about how he is a figure standing amidst all these people who come and go. Here he reflects on his own personality and outlook on life.
So... now we come to Honsool. To me, this is like the âdeepest partâ of the album. Over the course of the album we see yoongiâs thoughts go from a mellow and outward looking place, deeper and deeper into himself, burying into his core and this is like rock bottom.
The song itself feels so disorientating (musically as well as lyrically) that itâs as if heâs thought and questioned so much that he canât process any of it anymore. This felt like the climax of the album for me, because it became incredibly serious very fast.
And it feels like everything he had thought about just starts to zero in on himself, like he is in the centre of all the chaos.
But after that... we come to interlude: set me free. This feels like a recovery. Musically and lyrically it is much brighter, lighter

And it feels like heâs making his way out, feeling more content with things. Here, the focus of his reflections seem to shift from very extremely internal back to somewhere thatâs a little more external...(?) thatâs what i get from it.
Lastly, dear my friend doesnât relate that much to the rest of the album. It doesnât serve as a direct conclusion, or answer to the tracks that preceded it. But its themes of change and time are still consistent with the rest of the album.
Here... instead of sharing his thoughts about himself against the world, or himself against himself... he shares his thoughts about another person. He reflects about another person. I find that really pretty for some reason... and a very light-hearted yet insightful way to end
The album!
Iâm not sure if what i said sounded legit but this is just what the flow of the album felt like to me. Yoongi thinking about himself in this world, and against the passage of time, then just zooming in his own character, and finally back to a more âoutsideâ place!

It makes the whole course of the album feel much fuller and well-rounded, like you can go full circle.
