A thread on personal goals:

1/ Some waltz through life without intent or premeditated purpose. I was never one of those people.
2/ At age 7 I told everyone who asked that I wanted to be a theoretical physicist. Some laughed, some doubted, but I was unrelenting. 20 years of effort and study were aligned to this one goal. Any resistance offered by the universe fueled my fire.
3/ After recently achieving this goal, I found myself in "goal limbo". Felt like my ears were buzzing after a concert. Had not had a definite plan past this point, as the goal seemed forever unattainable on the horizon.
4/ I understood how it felt to not have a guiding principle for life, I saw how some could get lost in this goal-limbo, just taking what the universe gives them.
5/ I had to find a new meta-narrative for the next 20 years. It took 2 weeks of self-reflection about myself, where civilization is going, and where there are opportunities for the greatest impact.
6/ Found a new meta-objective. My energy levels, and my inner fire, were fully back.

At that moment, I realized that *this* is in fact my superpower.

Knowing where one is going and being excited about the future is the key to a great and meaningful life.
PS/ to the nihilists about to reply to this thread: don't.

I was once like you (in undergrad). It's a miserable & unproductive life. You can emerge from it (I did). Find meaning from the first principles of the universe, live your best life.
