16th June is 2 days after Sushant died.
When a tragedy strikes, everybody goes uncomfortably numb. It's impossible to think straight as the mind refuses to accept the reality because of shock.
This is why people are given time to recoup & recover before their statements are taken https://twitter.com/ANI/status/1290194899619344386
I am sorry, it just might be the second day after his death. Perhaps when they gave the statement, even 48 hours hadn't passed. I am not sure, if they were able to process the reality & were still grappling with what they were witnessing.
Tragedy is not easy to bear for the mind.
Anybody who has come face-to-face with tragedy or an accidental death in the family will know what I am speaking about.
The first thing that strikes you is disbelief.
Second, the moments start passing in a blur as you grow disillusioned with the reality.
You behave like a robot.
Later, I came to know that it's my mind's reaction to sudden shock. Body and mind both start reacting differently to the shock. I was told that it is because of the pain that my mind was experiencing. Yes, mind experiences acute pain too & the feeling is different than body pain.
If any of you have faced a tragedy or been a victim of physical or sexual assault, then you will understand what I am talking about.
It is sometimes impossible to give a coherent oral statement immediately following an incident as victims might not be a proper frame of mind.
It isn't rare for victims to change their statements later on. I think the law allows everybody to change statements and add additional or supplementary statements. A lawyer can answer that but I have seen that happening.
As new facts emerge, new statements are made as well.
I think it isn't proper to blame Sushant's family for changing statements. They weren't aware about a lot of things. They have also put it on record that they didn't know that he was taking medicines for mental illnesses as their consent wasn't taken before starting the treatment
They have also put it on record that they didn't know about the financial angle like the companies, money being siphoned off from his bank accounts or the lakhs being transferred to a bank account not related to him.
All these revelations shocked them and hence they lodged an FIR
We need to view this case with a lot of empathy. Sushant's father is 74 years old who suddenly lost his grown-up son. I cannot even begin to imagine the mental trauma that he had experienced. Yet how courageous and strong he must have been to come forward with a police complaint!
