femicides in mexico are not a new thing, women in my country have been fighting for their right to live for YEARS. between 2006 and 2013, the amount of registered femicides was as high as 3000, if not more.
why do i say "if not more"? most femicides are not even marked as such. most cases are simply closed with no further investigation. there's also the "black digits" that are cases that were not even reported or that the victim's whereabouts are unknown.
the exact figures of how many women have been killed, or the ones that at this moment are in danger of being killed are extremely high. yet unknown to the public.
our president insists that nothing is happening, that these deaths are false. he insists that in mexico, everything is alright.
due to the pandemic and the regulations for prevention, many women have found themselves trapped in their abusers homes. this has caused a spike in femicides and violence against women. in july, around 103 femicides were reported.
