The Wazzu situation is nowhere near finished so I urge anyone following it to be patient as more information comes out. But, I do have some thoughts...

I honestly do not believe that Wazzunis kicking players off the team because they decided to join the Players Movement. If you listen to the call between Rolo/Woods, it’s pretty obvious that that’s not what Rolo is implying.

Woods says he’s opting out due to covid. Rolo is on bard with that. Rolo proceeds to ask if Woods is joining the Players Movement and tells Woods that he doesn’t know what the future will look like for the players involved (reasonable observation).

Then Rolo basically gives Woods an easy exit saying “if this is for covid, I totally understand, you’re good. If this is for the Movement, your future is up in the air.” He basically gave him an out!

And I interpreted that as Rolo not having a clue what the NCAA will do to those players — not that Rolo himself will be making those decisions. But then things get interesting, and where Woods’ entire argument loeses some credibility to me...

Woods proceeds to tell Rolo — after saying he doesn’t feel safe playing due to covid — that he’s going to continue practicing/working out with the team (???) That’s bad logic. And I genuinely believe that Woods is concerned for his health but he didn’t do himself any favors here.

Rolo told Woods to clean out his locker which is where a lot the attention is going here, but think about this logically. If a player doesn’t feel safe being around the team, nobody with a brain is going to let them continue working out around others. There has to be boundaries.

And this leads me to my final thought(s). The cynic in me thinks that players may attempt to opt-out due to covid while joining the Players Movement, therefore giving them a “cushion” while being part the Movement.

They’ll be able to fight for athlete rights while not actually risking their season since they’ve opted-out due to “covid concerns.” Essentially having their cake and eating it too. And this brings us back to what Rolo was saying on the call with Woods.

It’s obvious (at least it was to me) that Rolo wanted Woods to say it was for covid and nothing else. Essentially “Hey man, say it’s for covid and cover both of our asses. But if you tell me it’s for The Movement, I may not be able to protect you.”

And to be very clear, I support the PAC-12 Players Movement 110%. I truly believe that there will be real change from this, even if it looks much different than what their initial demands are.
