This edit's going around but I really wanna talk about this first because like the second panel is obviously ridiculous but this first panel expresses a belief that I don't think enough people deconstruct:
You know people like, tried to stop Hitler, right? Like people were saying "alright that's enough" but he took control of it all. Do you think Nazi Germany just happened and everyone was like "yeah okay"
There's a belief that you can just start only forcing out intolerant beliefs when they start rubbing up against other people and causing problems but that doesn't work because:
1. Marginalized people are typecast as "the problem" by these people in an attempt to quash dissent
2. If you do start forcing them out once they've built up a little but after they start causing problems, they cause even more problems
3. Fascists tend to try and hide their attempts to push out people they don't like by making them uncomfortable with dogwhistling and private shows of contempt while the people in charge who could stop it or are okay with them are meant to be none-the-wiser
In short:
Actually, better in short: have you ever fucking read the "first they came for" poem and actually comprehended it
Like, really seriously comprehended it
"Alright, Hitler, you came for the Jews and that's just one line too far! You made very convincing arguments for why the trade unionists and the socialists were bad, but–Wait where are you taking me?"
