A propaganda has been unleashed against us, unfortunately Hindus themselves are part of it.The propaganda is that Hindu festivals are not actually Hindu, they have been reduced to mere symbolism. The religion from festivals is fading away & we are just being spectators.
So Deepawali is just festival of lights or Jashn-e-Roshni in Urdu, Holi is just the festival of colours, Vijayadashami is the festival of victory of good over evil. Navaratri is the festival of feminism & Rakshabandhan is the festival of love between brother & sisters.
The actual essence of them is fading away, in West you have days like Mother's day, father's day, daughter's day. A time will come when our festivals will be reduced to this mere symbolism & some other (probably some Abrahmic one) religion will appropriate them.
We should remember that both Christmas & Easter were Pagan festivals which were appropriated by Christianity & now no one remembers their original essence. Do we want the same thing for Hindu festivals ? Then why are we not countering this propaganda that is so relevant to us ?
Deepawali is the homecoming of "Bhagwan" Shri Ram to Ayodhya. It is also the day when we worship "Bhagwan" Ganesh & "Devi" Lakshmi. Holi is the day when Holika died because she supported "Adharma". Vijayadashami is the day when "Bhagwan" Ram killed Ravan & reestablished "Dharma".
It is also the day when Durga Mata killed Mahishasur & reestablished "Dharma". Navratri is the worshipping of various forms of Mata Durga. It is not the festival of feminism. Raksha bandhan is the day when people tie a Rakhi to people who protect them. Sisters tie it to brothers.
Sons tie it to their fathers, people tie to Sadhus. Though the last two practices have faded to time.

If we don't give a Dharmik essence to our festivals, someone else will give a secular flavour to them & Dharma will be defeated.Hence it is necessary to counter this propaganda.
