Philosophical work is held to such a bizarre standard, in a way that reveals that ppl are from the beginning expecting themselves and others to fail, as if the point is just to put forth different theories and arguments for its own sake and not discover actual truth (a view which
some even hold explicitely). the thought of something being conclusively demonstrated isn't even considered; and philosophers proceed accordingly, and the results are predictable. this attitude incompatible with taking the field seriously.
like there's no basis for thinking the answer to the question of how to live is any less determinate and demonstrable than answers to questions in math and physics, and if you evaluate positions while believing the opposite then obviously that will distort things & result in a
lower & emptier standard
