Before you get on twitter and tell us that SI is bringing more viewers to the WNBA, ask yourself why you think it takes a white player to do it? Ask yourself, what does that say about the black women that make up 80% of the league? Ask yourself, why don’t you know their stories?

Saying her name doesn’t stop at saying the names of the black women killed within our system. We have to say the names of black women across America that are doing the work only to have that work overshadowed by white women. Ask yourself why you only know Diana, Sue, and EDD?

Ask yourself why Tina Thompson, Sheryl Swoopes, Cynthia Cooper, Lisa Leslie, Candace Parker, and Maya Moore are often left out of conversations about all time greats?

If womens basketball is only marketable with a white face you may have to ask yourself what role do you play in making that true. If we are going to call out systemic racism and white supremacy, we have to do it in all facets of society.

I love womens basketball and I love being black. I love it enough to not remain silent while white supremacy continues to be supported by the media and within the WNBA itself.

It’s so ironic that the league and commentators are focusing on highlighting black voices but it’s also very apparent that they aren’t applying that same philosophy to the players.

In the coming tweets, I am going to try to give some concrete evidence of biases within WBB.
