since i see a lot of people using the caste system to "prove" that south asians are racist and have been since before british rule, here's a small thread on why ur logic is COMPLETELY wrong :)
the original caste system was NOT by skin color, as western textbooks may teach you. they were created using the four varnas in the Vedas (Hindu scripture), which are job classifications. these classifications were based on how close your profession was to God; essentially, the+
closer your job was to serving God, the higher your caste was. when the british came, however, they realized that the power south asia had built up was too much and they needed a way to divide them to conquer them. so they spread the idea that darker skin colors were "dirtier"+
and gradually morphed the caste system into something much uglier and based on skin color. when they did this, they were able to split people up and take over south asia more easily. as horrible as it is, this is where the caste system that the west thinks of started.
lastly i think this should go without saying, but don't?? generalize all south asians and say every single one of us is racist??? i do agree there are many colorist ideas in the region that even we suffer from as dark skinned desis but we're actively working against it and+
saying that every single one of us is racist because of this caste system is ridiculous.
