Why go ‘Early and Opposite’ in transition thread:💡 @bballimmersion
1. Takes advantage of transition defense’s tendencies—loading to the ball by plugging ball-side and middle 1/3.
2. Creates long close-outs on the backside by moving the defense twice (outlet and hit-ahead)
On the hit ahead, ‘Early and Opposite, we want to be “ball-movers” early, with the ball preferably crossing half-court by air. Here the ball was moved ‘Early and Opposite’, leading to a ‘Drive the 45’, leveraging a 2on1 offensive advantage, paint touch and rim finish.
Or in this example, from @Zico_Coronel’s team, we can also be “ball-movers” late when going ‘opposite’ if there is no trans. advantage. Here we see #25 ‘delaying to fill’ and ‘Stampede’s’ his catch as he ‘Drives the 45’ to leverage a 2on1 offensive advantage for an open corner 3.
Lastly, when transition defense’s scout knows we want to hit ahead ‘Early and Opposite’, and plugs passing lanes, a Dribble Push is a great way to leverage advantage in transition.
