So I'm watching @Hbomberguy's excellent new video about RWBY, and it's got me thinking about how many stories with FANTASTIC trailers, hooks or premises failed to impress once they actually got going. I'm curious to hear about everyone's biggest disappointments in this area! -R
For an example in the video, Bleach. I know TONS of people who were absolutely hooked by the episodic monster-of-the-week format it led with, and then just… slowly got more and more disillusioned with the format it settled into. How does that HAPPEN? Mysteries upon mysteries. -R
For the record, my thoughts on RWBY are… shallow. When it was first announced, I lost my shit over it like everyone else. But when it actually started, I just couldn't get into it. It was nobody's fault, I just legitimately couldn't stand listening to the acting quality 😬 -R
I just kind of mentally filed it away to check back when the acting had gotten better and the main plot had properly started. So……… -R
This kind of reminds me of the time a friend of mine tried to get me to watch Merlin. Her pitch was basically that every season was terrible, except one of them, which was sort of good, but she wanted me to watch all of them. I watched none of them. -R
