~ Who Was Sir Lancelot? ~

(Thread)
Lancelot or 'Lancelot du Lac' ~ Meaning 'Lancelot of The Lake' was the adopted son of Nimue, The Lady Of The Lake, and one of King Arthur's Knights.

He was raised on The Island Of Avalon, a fairy realm, by his adoptive mother, Nimue.

He grew up to be a Knight and Scholar.
His mother had encouraged him to join Arthur's court and become a Knight of The Round Table, as she had raised him to be a man of honour and a skilled fighter.

He was also said to be a lover of art and music, and had managed to capture the attention of Lady Guinevere.
He is most famous for his affair with King Arthur's love, Lady Guinevere, but their love was doomed from the start.

He was a close friend to King Arthur and he had tried to conceal his love for Guinevere, but had failed and betrayed his friend.
~ Lancelot And Guinevere's Tragic Love ~

Lancelot had fallen in love with Guinevere, and she had tried to stop his advances and stay away. But soon, her feelings for him became too much and the two became lovers.

Their love ended in tragedy, however,
Sir Agravaine, Arthur's nephew, led the Knights to where the lovers were.

Lancelot escaped, but Guinevere was seized and sentenced to burn to death for Adultery. Lancelot returned and saved her, dividing the Knights and weakening Camelot in the process.
Lancelot became a Hermit and spent the rest of his life alone.

Guinevere sought sanctuary at a Monastery and spent her remaining years as a Nun.

The two never reunited.
Lancelot had visions of The Holy Grail, a Cup said to have miraculous powers such as immortality and the power to heal mortal wounds, to retrieve it however, one has to love God above anything.

Lancelot could not retrieve it, as he loved Guinevere more than he loved God.
Lancelot was a devout Christian and would spend a lot of time at the Chapel.

He had a son, Galahad, with a woman named Elaine who had tricked him into sleeping with her by pretending she was Guinevere.
