“We take care of us” means we call out people in our community who are pulling stupid shit that affects others, though. I don’t think this is policing or even enforcing anything, merely setting standards and possibly negative consequences for continuing the behavior https://twitter.com/lycheefrut/status/1289965041425342464
And by negative consequences, that can mean a public call out if not responded to appropriately privately, or it could simply mean I remember how you behaved during this time and choose not to patronize or provide you with my $ when it’s over and things are ‘back to normal’
I’m open to other types of accountability that don’t involve cops or cop-like behavior. Throwing a party under current circumstances should be perceived as hugely negative right now.
Here in SF, instead of setting an example for how to behave, we had two venues that just couldn't help themselves and the city opted to send them cease and desists. People that think throwing parties right now is ok really need to look at the example they're setting for others.
furthermore aside from the ethical considerations (+ BLM, protesting etc not taking priority is a whole other conversation!) you are literally simply prolonging being able to get back to normal social gatherings in pursuit of your specific business or one hedonistic event.
it says to your community: "I don't care about anyone else's health" "I don't care about other clubs, venues, or businesses" "I don't care that you're putting others on public transit at risk" or "i don't care about subjecting lyft/uber/cab drivers to my risky ass"
