Workers all over don’t feel safe.

In the past few months, I’ve spoke to folks in multiple industries from all over the country & majority of them absolutely don’t feel safe & ultimately don’t think their workplace should be open BUT NEED MONEY TO SURVIVE. https://twitter.com/thotskyy/status/1289887022513938432
It’s sickening that folks are forced to be risking their lives because they have rent to pay, and food to buy.

It’s even more sickening that these workers are underpaid, understaffed, and owned by the elite that definitely don’t care.
We continue to see the mistreatment of retail, grocery, f ood service, etc. workers by customers because they refuse to acknowledge the current pandemic.

Workers are already mistreated behind closed doors, they don’t need y’all recording making their jobs even more worse.
Let’s not forget the millions of ppl that have lost their jobs (probably forever).

We have failed to find any real solution for them.

Even the bandaid fixes are terrible (i.e. the unemployment “expansion,” rent/mortgage moratorium, etc.)
What I don’t get is w/ this info:

- the millions that are unemployed due to #COVID19

- the remaining industries running have historically been very difficult to organize a union (i.e. Walmart, Amazon, Target, McDonald’s, etc.)

- the reduction of UI insurance / no stimulus.
Why are we still pushing to organize a union first?

Those of us in labor know a contract CAN take anywhere to OVER A YEAR before it is finalized AND still excludes some vulnerable ppl out of the bargaining unit.
Don’t get me wrong - I still think we need labor unions, but we also need to have workers organized beyond a union contract.

Note: all this thread still excludes a big number of our workforce considering a number of folks working in non-traditional/ underground industries.
