For what it’s worth, ASU’s spokesperson said they have been looking into reports about a potential death of a person claiming to be a faculty member for the last 24 hours, and have not been able to verify any connection to the university.
I have been trying to verify any connection to ASU myself and have come up empty. DMs are open.
Several people who had recognized the alleged death yesterday have since said they had not met them in person. And there’s this email exchange today:
This does not seem to square with tweets about in-person activities.

An anthropologist in Tucson who had previously worked at the University of Arizona did die from COVID-related illness back in May. It was written about at the time. It seems, for many reasons, to not be related at all to this current issue.
Reached out to Twitter PR about the suspension of the two accounts in question in this saga (McLNeuro and Sciencing_Bi). Twitter said: "I can confirm we have suspended these accounts for violating our spam and platform manipulation policies. Nothing else to share at this time."
