Also, as a general rule, fb groups are among the worst representations of what "organizing" looks like. There is rarely any organizing going on, and when there is, it's usually about .2% of what's happening. If you're in a good group, congrats, but they are mostly dumpster fires.
In my experience, the fb organizing groups that are actually useful are super carefully cultivated. People join with shared goals, intent and w ground rules. Sorting those things after the fact in a flaming dumpster as it rolls downhill is... unlikely.
Most political fb groups basically take the very American idea of self expression itself as "doing something" & put it in a supposedly purposeful container. So instead of just "doing something" by stating their opinion, folks feel like they've leveled up by saying it in a group.
Society reinforces the idea that people are "doing something" and fighting the good fight just by expressing their opinion bc folks congratulating each other on their good politics or ritualistically duking it out in a comment thread prob aren't disrupting the system by doing so.
Not saying there isn't value in stating a moral truth. Obviously there is. But this society projects much more onto that singular act than is really there.
There's a reason for that.
Like, yes, speak truth to power, and in general, but maybe also do something to undermine that power. Or at least drop off snacks at jail support or something.
