'mono' #1 in 114 countries appreciation thread —

01. Tokyo –

this song really encompasses the feeling of being incomplete and longing. i just love how it perfectly captures the distraught feeling you feel when you begin to question everything. +

"i see pinocchio wearing a poncho, that's me sometime ago."

pinocchio is a fictional character who dreams of being a real human boy. NJ compared himself to pinocchio as he also have his own occurrences of loneliness. +

and by depicting him in a poncho, it brings us to the feeling of hiding and being alone as one of the many things conveyed in 'forever rain.'

02. seoul –

i love how he perfectly depicts the "love-hate" relationship he has with the city that is now his home. in this song it really felt like i knew a new part of him haha. it felt like a story. +

"why do sound like 'soul?'"

for NJ, soul is something beautiful within us while seoul is a city of many things. he then says, "if love and hate are the same words, i love you seoul." in this line he incorporates the idea that 'love' and 'hate' are the same thing +

bc it is both driven by immense passion. as he could be saying 'soul' or 'seoul' in this line, he technically applies the same idea to the city and his own soul. meaning he does not define his relationship w the city by love or hate, but rather by his passion towards it.

03. moonchild –

this song is very special to me. it encourages everyone to find the light within them during dark times just like the moon. it tells us that it's okay to cry. that sometimes it's okay not to be okay. ++

his belief that there is light and hope in places that we least expect is very significant all throughout the song that each word he sings really gives me comfort. it encourages everyone to get up and share their light as we are always someone's nightscape and someone's moon +

"moonchild, you shine. when moon rise, it's your time."

"we are each other's nightscape, each other's moon."

"someone will be consoled by looking at your thorns, for sure."

please,,,,, this song itself deserves a grammy i'm crying. brought me to TEARS listening to it

04. badbye –

badbye is a play on the traditional greeting, "goodbye." the song captures the hardship of coping with pain. "kill me, kill me softly" is repeatedly sang in the chorus as if portraying just how much you're willing to do anything to escape a pain you're feeling.

05. uhgood

i love this song so much as i can relate to it. often times we're pressured by our real selves and our ideal selves and we struggle to make them meet at least halfway. ++

overtime as a result, you start to feel like you're not yourself. and that feeling is perfectly captured in this song. though it hurts so much to feel out of place with urself and the things outside you, you still power yourself with courage to reach the real YOU. ++

and in this song, to know that he goes thru the same thing is comforting to me and i want nothing else to do other than give him the biggest hug. this song is just- **chefs kiss**

06. everythingoes –

this idea is something i struggled to learn. and with this song, i realized that everything really just,,, goes. this song just comforts me in many ways.

"just like the flower wilts and the fruit grows ripe." ++

"everything needs to go through pain. embrace the world and suck in a breath. that prickling air that fills your lungs says everything."

07. forever rain –

i don't feel like i have the right vocabulary to talk about forever rain. this song brought me to tears, more because of the fact that this is him,, his story, the way he felt. painfully beautiful. ++

i know how it feels to be like that. that's why to this day i really just wanna give him a big hug

namjoon is the very reason i became a fan of bts. his versatility as an artist is just one of the many things i love about him. and in mono, everything about it is so like him. it felt like i was in his mind in some way. like he was talking to me personally. ++

and to make that connection is amazing. i think about this all the time but i hope he's told everyday about how much his music helps a lot of people including me. with mono's 114th #1 today, i think he feels our love <3 i'm so proud of him.
