I should clarify that most of them are not true personal pronouns, they are kinship terms or nouns used as personal pronouns. Vietnamese culture at its roots is a Confucian culture, & the hierarchy & inequality are reinforced by the language.
We can't run from it.

I hate that in Vietnamese, I have to be respectful to some stupid, lying arsehole just because he's older.
I hate that in Vietnamese, I can't just be me & speak as me, but I get stuck & tangled in all kinds of order, hierarchy, & relationships.
