Hello Twitter, I really didn’t want to do this, but not sharing this story will fuel my depression.
Two weeks ago, I got a job at a Tech Company - In New Jersey, USA and was redirected to work with their section in Capetown, South Africa.

For now, due to the pandemic. I got a text from the CEO on LinkedIn one faithful afternoon requesting that I come write for the company, after he had read and gone through an article I uploaded on LinkedIn (Medium Pub’d) I was glad and overly joyous.
“I had secured the big bag”..

I thought to myself. So I was given the directives of my work (content writing and Blog editing) and was asked to state my salary expectation, which I did and surprisingly, the company offered a bit more than I expected. The pay was good, so I started doing my research...
On the work I’m to do in the company. A week ago, I shared the news here on Twitter out of joy. I was then contacted the next day on a zoom meeting with the CEO. After the meeting, I discovered they also have a branch in Lagos and was told I could come down to Lagos...
When the pandemic is controlled. I was happy. Told my parents about it. Told most of my friends, some of whom I carried along.
The next day, I had to send a mail to the CEO confirming the job take and my duties. Afterwards, I was told I could resume work on Friday (24th July)...

The company had a new app and program they had to launch before the 31st of July (last Friday). I was supposed to come up with series of creative content that aid an easy “client-organization” interaction. Also, I was supposed to edit the website of that particular Program...
Knowledge on the urgency of the matter and how serious my work was, disregarding the pressure, I was determined to work and do the best I can.

On the 22nd of July (Wednesday), I had to go buy a system with half my savings and some support from my dad. (Worth approx $1,115 = N428,000)
“The company isn’t aware of this”
I felt I could easily recover the money for the system in less than three months, so it was worth it...

Or so I thought. Last week, I reached out to the CEO again, curious on why I didn’t start work on Friday as I was told, and he asked that I provide my proof of identity (I sent my Intl. passport and a slip of my National Identification Number) He confirmed them...
After that, I didn’t get any response for around 18hrs, I was beginning to worry I had lost the job even before I could start.
A few hours into the next day, I was told I would have my work drafts and company designed email sent to my mailbox. I was happy. (Monday, 27th July)...

Ever since then, I still haven’t gotten any response from the company. I have sent around three emails. Sent series of texts on LinkedIn and I come back every time, to see that my messages were being ignored. I was running out of my mind. Completely disoriented...
I just don’t think it’s professional for CEOs or Hirers to ghost job applicants (which in this case, I didn’t apply for the job, but got contacted)

I don’t know what to tell my parents, or how to feel. Cause, I feel I have spent a lot of money on a system, to not get this work.
I bought the system solely for this job, knowing what it entails.
The workload was going to cripple my old laptop.

Please if you’re reading this and can help me get a job, cause I desperately need one. So my money doesn’t end up wasted just like that, I’d really appreciate it

I didn’t want to make this tweet just yet, as the company might be having some technical difficulties currently and might reach me later, but I don’t want to risk my eggs all in one basket.
