With the possibility of Diangana returning from his impressive loan & the club looking to sign Eze, would you keep Anderson at the club?
Unless we recoup around £25million +, Anderson is worth keeping. Let’s take a look at some of the goals he was instrumental in this season and why he can still be an important attacking player for Moyes’ side

• Watford (A)
- Occupies a central role where he is most comfortable
- Anticipates the loose ball & beats the defender
- Composure to find Haller’s direct run in the box

Norwich (H)
- FA & Masuaku appeared to link-up well down the left in the early stages of the season.
- Cleverly spots Masuaku’s inverted overlapping run.
- Masuaku then exploits the gap between the CB & RB.

His cushioned headed pass towards Cresswell highlights his positional awareness.

Leicester (H)
The Brazilian operated centrally here and played a key role in Fornals’ equaliser.
- Maneouvres out of a tight situation under pressure
- Carries the ball forward
- Picks out Fornals with composure

Anderson is fundamental in the build-up to this well-worked team goal.
- Releases in tight situation
- Makes an immediate forward run
- Recieves the ball from Noble and carries forward.

This is what I alluded to in the Haller thread. Anderson’s early season form brought the best out of Haller and complemented his strengths. https://twitter.com/danwoff98/status/1285620699822993415
The Brazilian was also influential in West Ham’s 4-0 win vs Bournemouth. He played centrally behind Haller in a 4-4-1-1 formation and flourished.
- Bournemouth operate a high-line
- Anderson used his & targets Bournemouth’s last man

Anderson’s game by numbers vs Bournemouth:
49 touches
1 goal
3/7 successful dribble attempts
76% passing accuracy
5/13 ground duels won
1 tackle
2 interceptions

What has gone wrong this season? Let’s take a look in more detail as to why he’s struggled and has failed to replicate his early season form

Let’s take a look at his heat-map from the 2019/20 season. Notice how deep Anderson appears to come on the left to cover Cresswell.
This ultimately nullifies Anderson’s threat as he’s more of a luxury player who impacts the game more by staying higher up the pitch with less defensive responsibility. As you can see here:
- Anderson vacates a central position in the box before scoring
- Anderson vacates a central position in the box before scoring
If you compare last seasons above image to this one, FA acts as the last defender here.
- Newcastle break from a corner
- Anderson is tasked with tracking the pace of ASM with the defenders out of position

FA is supremely talented in the art of dribbling with his close control & agility as he showed at Lazio, playing across the front three in a 3-5-2/3-5-1-1. As shown here:
- Opposition press as a unit
- FA manages to keep the ball despite being surrounded

Anderson wasn’t afraid to take players on & dazzle them with his close control. Something he has approached more tentatively in the PL. Take a look at these two images as a comparison:
The difference in his shot maps also highlight his regression and loss of form. 2018/19 shows his influence in the final third.
Green = goal
Yellow = shot on post
Blue = saved shot
Purple = blocked shot
Red = missed shot

All of his goals except two have come from inside the area as shown on the graph. Let’s compare that to his 2019/20 shot graph.
As you can see there is a noticeable decrease in FA’s shot types. Not as many have come from inside the penalty box.

The main question is: Have West Ham utilised Anderson correctly and got the best from him or has he failed to adapt to the challenges in the PL?
Either way, it’s clear to see he has ability but is frustratingly inconsistent.
