tw// colorism

“you would’ve been pretty if you had light skin.” “why do you have such a dark skin?”
jeeee, i wonder why i’m dark skinned mother??
could it be that both you and my father are dark skinned??
it really hurts when they make comments like that. it took me SO LONG to love my melanated skin and then they go and say shit like this.
when they address someone as brown/dark skinned, they say “moila” which also means dirt/dirty. and for light skinned/white, they say “shundor” “forishkar” which also means clean, shining, and/or beautiful.
do you see the problem with that??
it hurts so bad and everytime i try to tell them, it’s always “were joking” “you shouldn’t take it so seriously”
how am i supposed to tell the difference between a joke and something you actually mean when all the shit that comes out when it comes to me, is so vile and disgusting.
colorism is such a big problem i’m so many cultures and it always gets brushed under the rug. it makes me so sad.
to all my melanated oomfs,

you are gorgeous, you are beautiful. please don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. i love you. and i want you to take a look at your beautiful melanated skin and see how it glows, how it shines. how beautiful it looks. how beautiful you look.
and remember, beauty isn’t only found in white/light skin tones.
it comes in all sizes, shapes, skin tones.
but true beauty, comes from good character and a good heart.
