At the end of the day, coaching is about getting results.
Whether that is in terms of developing players, your staff, the organization or putting points on the board.
Execute your coaching actions in a way that will give you a greater chance of success not only in the short term over a season, but also throughout your coaching career.
The great American football coach Vince Lombardi said many memorable things for coaches, one of them being: “Winning is not a sometime thing, it is an all the time thing. You don’t do things right once in a while. You do them right all the time”.
I love the last part of this quote about doing things right all the time.
Being consistent in your coaching actions is one of, if not the most important keys to being successful over time. Coaching human beings, you need to establish trust in order to make it possible for you to transfer your knowledge to them efficiently.
If you want players to trust you, consistency and honesty should be at the top of your list of traits and in your coaching. If you think about it from your own perspective, you are probably more likely to trust someone who tells you the truth and acts in a consistent manner.
