A short thread.

Went for a walk along Lossiemouth West Beach today and took a few photos of the WW2 beach defences.

Coastal erosion is exposing more of these 80yr old relics.

FYI @ckolonko
These anti tank blocks were made on site by a team from the Polish Army Engineer Corps between Aug 1940 and May 1941. They stretch for miles along the coast.
"Poland" was likely written in to the top of this block by one of the young engineers as the concrete was setting 80 years ago.
Not sure what the hollow pipe running through the base of the blocks is for. This would've been beneath the sand. Perhaps a cable run?
At some point after the war these anti-glider posts were cut flush with the beach. Later modifciation work to the nearby harbour has led to beach erosion which exposes the posts at low tide.
Many more of these blocks and posts remain buried along the coast but there are still some fantastic pillboxes and even a coastal gun battery in the area. Think I'll head out and find it during the week.
A few miles to the west you'll find Roseisle Beach. Canadian and American troops staged a full scale live ammunition rehearsal for D-Day here in March 1944. Damage to the pillboxes and blocks are still visible.
And of course most folk remain oblivious to the history beneath their feet. Here's one of my daughters using an 80yr old anti-invasion device as a rest for emptying sea water from her wellies!.😂
