Please mute and block people you don't want to interact with! This seems obvious but like -- I keep seeing ageist comments every few weeks. Those of us who were alive during the 80s might enjoy writing queer romance during that time period.
We can give fictional (!) characters experiences we were never allowed to have during that time. Shippy feelings don't necessarily die once you pass the age of 30! It's crazy how that happens.
"Minors do not interact" is on all of my headers. Heed this. I'm not interested in being fannish with minors.
Above all, don't gatekeep fandom. You don't get to tell anyone who can and cannot participate in fandom. You CAN, however, cultivate your experience by utilizing mute and block.
I try to bring joy to fandom! I love writing hurt/comfort and soft times for characters who have experienced trauma. It's healing. Sometimes I write NSFW as well -- it's fun to do. I was once 18/19 years old and remember that feeling.
I organized a fandom fundraiser earlier this year for Australia & we raised over $5k USD. I wrote for the harringrove zine that's coming soon! So please save your words about older fans not having a space in a fandom set during a time period we *remember*.
Shit, lol, my first boyfriend was a metalhead with red hair.
I feel like I'm saying this like once a month. It starts to get demoralizing after a while. Ageism isn't cute. We were writing fanfic in our Trapper Keepers before some of yall were even thought of -- we *belong here*. We paved the way for you.
all of that said -- look for my ficlet in the summer of 85 zine! You have til Aug 31st to order and I was able to collab with wrecked fuse, one of the most talented fan artists I've ever encountered in my over 40 years <333
