Arsenal: Where they came from series
(A THREAD)
Meet Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. A football journeyman that has established himself as one of Europe’s most elite forwards. His story from growing up in France to becoming Arsenal’s top scorer and captain.
In June 1989 Aubameyang was born in Laval, France. He is connected to Gabon through his father who played for the Gabon National team responsible for winning the 1994 African Cup Title. His mother is originally from El Barraco, a town west of Madrid in Spain.
Growing up in France, the first club Aubameyang played for was ASL L’Huisserie which is located in his hometown of Laval. He moved teams quite often in the French youth system playing for OGC Nizza, Stade Laval, and FC Rouen.

In January 2007, Aubameyang joined AC Milan as a member of their U-19 setup. In August he was a part of a team that finished 4th in the inaugural Champions Youth Cup held in Malaysia. He scored against every opponent ending as the leading scorer with 6 goals in 7 matches.
Although Aubameyang experienced success in the youth tournament, he struggled finding a way into the Milan first team. From 2009-2011 he enjoyed a succession of loan spells back in his home country of France with Dijon, LOSC Lille, Monaco, and Saint Etienne.
After a successful loan spell Aubameyang permanently joined St. Etienne in January of 2012.
At St. Etienne Aubameyang tallied 37 goals and 15 assists in 87 appearances.
His breakout season was in 2012-2013 when he tallied 19 goals and 8 assists gaining European attention.
On July 4, 2013 Aubameyang moved to Borussia Dortmund for a reported transfer fee of around 14 million. Known as one of the most exciting attackers in Europe, Aubameyang would come into his own for Dortmund.

Also, I just started an Instagram! Follow @ArsenalRising on Instagram to find fun stories, posts, and notifications to when I post my threads. I will be starting to do weekly live streams on there as well to talk about Arsenal and the creative process behind my work.
Correction: Gabon did not win the 1994 cup of nations, the website I referenced was incorrect. However, Aubameyang’s father played a large role in his son’s choice to represent Gabon
