This is a new form of ad hominem criticism for me. This person (named Bari Williams of all things! Hello, are we in a simulation or what!?) states explicitly—not by the usual implication—that since my views are not hers they quite literally erase my ancestry and *make me white.*
I look at the history of the race construct as it has effected my family, descended from both Africa and Europe, and reject that people are either “white” or “black”. For this critic, that therefore means that I am simply part of an all-white panel discussing race.
Anyway, while we’re deciding whether or not the cold fact of ancestry can be cancelled by the fierce heat of ideology, I still have no idea which of my views articulated on the show she finds flawed or why.
It’s kind to of scary if not surprising to me that this person works in corporate diversity advocacy—“Hey, diversity is an objective good, so long as everyone thinks like me.” 🤷🏽‍♂️
Liberalism is capacious enough for all views—and rightly so—but the fight being waged now, and it has to be recognized as a genuine struggle, is to fundamentally alter those rules.
