WHY KAITO 'S HAIR IS PURPLE BUT KIYOTAKA'S ISN'T: A THREAD

trigger happy havoc came out ten years ago, and it shows! the way things are lined, colored, and shaded conveys a clear difference between art styles, v3 looks a lot smoother and polished, while dr1 is scratchy/sketchy.

we all know how much dr1 loved making the characters stand out. some of the characters have extremely dull skin (celeste and chihiro), or just dull colors in general (toko)!

when toko makes a comeback in ultra despair girls, her face and colors have changed completely. her colors are much more vibrant, and she... genuinely doesn't look like the same person.

speaking of toko, there's a color difference between her hair and kiyotaka's!

toko's hair, which is supposed to be purple (according to udg), looks like it has a red undertone. speaking of undertones, taka's hair seems to have a purple undertone!

great point! however, this does not mean his hair *is* purple. look at his character art. his character art colors his hair as black. meaning his hair is black.

i know danganronpa is quite inconsistent with its coloring, but the wiki even describes his hair as "short, spiky black hair". but with kaito , his hair is described as "gel-spiked purple hair that's grown out both at the top and bottom of his head"... whatever that means!

kaito 's hair is still described as being purple, though. and kiyotaka's isn't. undertones (and lighting, i guess) do not change this. kaito 's hair is purple no matter what.

kiyotaka's hair also has a purple undertone in the anime, but his hair was clearly intended to be black.

stylistic choices and lighting may make it *seem* like taka's hair is purple, but its not.

kaito 's color scheme is purple. he's the ultimate astronaut and he loves space. his hair is purple, not because of undertones, but because its just... purple.
