Long Copy Vs Short Copy

A THREAD
Copy can never be too long, only too boring!

~Gary Halbert
A common expression is that people do not read much.

But a vast amount of data shows that people do read much.

If someone is really interested in your product, he will read as much as you layout for him.
"The more you tell, the more you sell"

Would you be more likely to buy if you

spent 2 hours with a salesperson

or

20 minutes?

Yep. Thought so.
Think of your copy as a salesperson.

A salesperson can judge how the prospect thinks and change the angle of his sales pitch.

Your copy can't do that.

So it has to hit all the points, from all possible angles.

It has to state the benefits from all the different perspectives.
"The only reason for using short copy is when there isn't much to say"

~Maxwell Sackheim
Some people can decide with less information.

Some, however, need more to be convinced.

Long copy does both.

If you use only short copy,

you lose the "I need more information" customer.
Length implies strength:

Ever find yourself scrolling through a super long sales page thinking

"Man there's a lot of stuff in here, imagine what would be inside!"

Longer arguments convince people better,

because people infer that it must be correct.
Imagine if you read

"10 benefits of buying XXX"

Meh.

Now, think of

"88 benefits of buying XX"

You're damn right you want 88 benefits!

Even if you don't read all of it,

you're automatically convinced that there are enough reasons to buy.

Getting it?
Logic VS Emotion

Some people will read a little bit, scroll

and buy based on "Length implies strength"

Some people want to be more responsible with their money.

They want to think it through.

They want logic. Facts. The whole thing.

Longer copy will help you convince both!
Now don't go on writing longer copy just for the sake of writing, lol.

-Drown them in benefits

-Show pictures

-Rain testimonials

-Offer warranty to quell fears

Don't worry about it being too long.

You're better off worrying about the QUALITY.
Pro tip:

Being lazy should not be your reason to write shorter copy.
