I’m gonna go ahead and need anyone who did this or who signed the Harper’s letter to call Auburn university administrators rn to defend @KempoJesse’s job. https://twitter.com/ssiddiqui83/status/1289921643041570816
If you think elite conservative/liberal white people’s jobs are in endanger, you should see what is happening to contingent faculty who publicly challenge racist structures

Dear ,

I hope this email finds you healthy and well.
I am writing as a concerned PhD candidate in history and colleague of Dr. Jesse Goldberg.
I have seen internet trolls engage in a targeted attack on Dr. Goldberg for having criticized the policing profession, a clear expression of his first amendment right.
I am deeply troubled by Auburn admins’ response alleging that Dr. Goldberg’s tweet was “hate speech,” a designation reserved for marginalized populations & clearly unfit to describe a group of people who could, at any time, choose not to be part of a particular profession
By this extremely loose definition, U.S. citizens could not publicly criticize intellectuals, celebrities, or even politicians.
Additionally such haphazard deployment of "hate speech” to apply to a profession would also undermine its intended use, to protect already vulnerable communities from undue and violent speech.
I implore Auburn administrators to stand by their decision to hire Dr. Goldberg, a worthy instructor and scholar as determined by your own faculty and administrators.
Terminating Dr. Goldberg would embolden anonymous internet trolls and undermine the tenets of academic freedom that allows scholars to engage in controversial, but essential public engagement.
Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Sorry Dean of Arts and Sciences Joe Aistrup [email protected]
