Back in April I saw a tweet shitting on ppl's quarantine sprouts, saying they were gonna die cause nobody knew how to garden. I also saw someone post that they got rid of their "dud" strawberries bc they didn't fruit. But strawberries don't often fruit til their 2nd year.
My March-planted strawberries haven't fruited or even flowered yet but the strongest one has sent out a runner, a sign that things are going well! I almost stopped caring for them because in April the sprouts WERE looking bad - spindly and too tall, and pale.
I did some research and then kind of wung it - planted them a bit deeper and moved them outside with a short hardening off period. I'm glad I didn't end up giving in to the failure feelings sparked by seeing that mean tweet about my/our quarantine plants being destined for death.
It's easy to internalize someone else's senseless negativity and I guess my point with this thread is that you don't always need to do that. Just because someone's mean to you doesn't mean they are right. Do your research and then do your best.
And I hope that person who threw out their "dud" strawberries isn't too discouraged, and learns that they weren't a failure after all!
