When it is necessary and unnecessary to clear “[insert member name] gay” in the twitter searches

Another much needed thread
The only time it is really necessary to clear searches, is if that search will lead to *LEGIT* defamation or misinformation. If you enter that search and it’s filled with people spreading a thread with 5k likes that H*anwoong is gay when there are no official statements
or the company has made a statement against it, yes it is best to try and diffuse the rumor as much as possible. Korea is not as far as some countries when it comes to accepting/understanding the lgbtq+ community. An official media account spreading it to knetz could
ruin their career/reputation in Korea, which could ruin it period. When those messages from the ex D*verse member were released, that was the time it was appropriate. We needed to try and draw attention from that as much as possible. Not only was that a legit situation that
could have ruined careers, but it also could have outed the members, which is something no one should ever have to go through. Now this is very different from the last couple times people have been trying to clear the searches.
There were lots of people desperately trying to clear “H*wanwoong gay” yesterday. Please tell me when looking at what pops up when you search it, that it is needed. When this is the stuff that pops up and you’re trying to clear it, it comes off as very homophobic/invalidating.
It gives off a sense that being gay is wrong. There is nothing whatsoever in there that will be detrimental to the member you are claiming to protect. Some people in the lgbtq+ community actually find comfort in making slight jokes or statements such as these. It’s not assuming
their sexuality. It’s a bit silly to tell someone not to tweet this when it really does no harm. I very much doubt anyone, especially a source that could cause harm, will look at the tweet below and think “wow o*eus really is gay. Let me spread it to the world and destroy them”
In the end, it just draws MORE attention to it and leads to people purposely tweeting those statements. Idols have their name with gay in the searches all the time, but have you ever seen any of them legit have their career on the line because of harmless tweets like this? No.
What’s even more silly, is most of the people I’ve come across still trying to argue about the word gay being with a member’s name have member x member fanfics/aus on their account. Am I the only one finding that a bit hypocritical?
Are there antis who try to show up before a comeback and stir up drama? Yes, there are, but when that happens, it’s important to report, block and spread semi quietly about the situation because all that person wants is a reaction.
I think a lot of people who have been trying to clear the searches at unnecessary times had good intentions of trying to help o*eus. I think this really became a big problem within the fandom after the d*verse situation, but that was very different from yesterday’s situation.
It was very upsetting to come on here and see so many people thoroughly hurt and questioning the reliability/heart of this fandom. Y’all need to learn to listen to people. If you post something and someone tells you that it’s upsetting to them, sit there and listen to them.
You might not have had ill intentions, but you might just learn something really important. It’s okay to be educated. Learning and growing from experiences, both good and bad, are parts of life.
If you’re someone that has been hurt by recent events, please know that there are lots of people in this fandom who love and support you. EVERYONE here matters. Twitter is meant to be a fun place for us all to connect and love our boys the best that we can.
I feel like a broken record, but if you ever need to talk/vent to someone, if there’s something you’d like to discuss, if I’m missing the point of something, etc. I’m always open to talking. My dms are open. My account is public.
I love this fandom. I feel like it’s my home, but just like any family, we fight and disagree sometimes and it’s important to talk it out and try to make each other better.
