Many Special Needs families are happy to see so many parents speaking up now on school safety. That's amazing and awesome. However we have been doing this battle for years. Our kids often have complex medical needs and or learning needs that require things like small classrooms,
Supports in classrooms to help our kids go through the day safely, and measures put in place like kids not coming in when sick to keep our kids safe. This is our battle constantly. Did you send your kids in sick before? Did you worry about losing work before?
Many of us have already had to quit their jobs to be there if the school calls, to fit in appointments, to pull our kids out if something contagious was going around. To make the endless specialists appointments. Most of us women. That whole impact on women thing... we know it.
So while all these parents rise up now. Angry now. Can you continue that anger when Covid does go away? Can you start seeing our kids and our families and help us get what our kids need too? See the struggles we face daily. If you support us you support better for your kids too.
All your asking for....we have been for a long time. So... please don't drown our activism out. Don't shout above us. We can help. We are old hat at this. But don't forget us when things calm down. #abed #Ableg #abed #HoldMyHandAb #equityandinclusion
